Home Security Components
Deciding on Home Security Components
It is difficult to watch the news or read a newspaper
without finding out about unnerving crimes. Home invasions, robberies are becoming commonplace occurrences. Most
frightening are when children are abducted from their homes such as the sad cases of Polly Klaas, Jessica Lunsford
and Elizabeth Smart. Because of these types of crimes more people are gaining peace of mind by choosing and
installing Home Security Components.
While security systems can vary widely they all serve
the same purpose: protection your home and loved ones. The four main basic components are the control panel,
keypad, detector and alerter. The control panel is typically installed out of sight and is the information
storehouse for the security system. Much like the engine of a car you don't have to open the hood to know it is
working you just look at the dashboard (keypad). Control panels can be hardwired into a house during construction
or added later. Wireless control systems are now widely available.
The keypad is used most often. This is what is used to
activate or deactivate the system. Indicator lights will let you know at a glance if the system is operational.
Some keypads offer emergency buttons that directly contact local emergency personnel or your monitoring service
depending on how your system is set up. As an added precaution there are a few keypads out there that offer a
''hostage'' code" that immediately sends a message to law enforcement that you were forcibly made to deactivate
your security system. The detection component can be as simple as having door alarms or can be more comprehensive
to include glass breaking sensors, special window screens that detect cutting or tearing, motion sensors, carbon
monoxide detectors and smoke detectors.
Many home systems have video monitoring as well. When
it comes to Home Security Components the alerter is what gets attention and discourages thieves. This can start
with yard signs and window decals that display the name of the security system and also include motion sensor
lights, strobe lights, alarms and sirens that can scare away intruders and keep your family safe and secure.
Whatever combination of components you choose to safeguard your home the security in owning one will help you sleep
easier at night.
